The officers of Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) in Odesa region along with the Prosecutor’s Office, National Police, Border Guard Service, and State Fiscal Service revealed a sea channel of smuggling from the country in South America of large amounts of cocaine, as SBU press office reported.

The law enforcers blocked an attempt to deliver smuggled cocaine in boxes with bananas which were imported to Ukraine.

“During the inspection of the cargo, bags with white powder were found. The expertise showed that this was cocaine. The total weight of the found drugs is 257 kg, it is around $51 million,” SBU officers stated.

The Security Service opened a criminal proceeding. The establishment is trying to define the individuals involved in the smuggling process through this channel.

According to the State Border Guard Service, the drug came from Ecuador to Yuzhny sea port with “banana” cargo. 220 bricks of cocaine were found in total.
