The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) prevented three terrorist acts in Ukraine since the beginning of the year as Interfax-Ukraine reported citing SBU Head Ivan Bakanov.
“Only during the past 24 hours, the Security Service employees prevented three terrorist acts and detained four people involved in their preparation,” the SBU head said.
Bakanov noted that the first terrorist act was prevented by the SBU in April 2020 when the law enforcers exposed the bomber who earlier planted the explosive device near the shopping mall in Kharkiv. Besides, in June, the law enforcers detained a former military who tried to blew up the hospital in Severodonetsk and in July, a militant of the so-called Luhansk People’s Republic, tried to blew up the tanks with ammonia.
According to Bakanov, in 2020, the courts delivered 28 sentences for terrorism and 16 for the creation of the terrorist groups and organizations according to the materials of the SBU.
“In general, 254 foreigners are banned from the entrance to Ukraine as they are involved in the terrorism and extremist organizations,” Bakanov added.
As we reported, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine decided to terminate the memorandum with the Russian Federation on cooperation between the states in the fight against terrorism.
