Ukraine's Security Service prevents cyber attack at Central Election Commission website

Ukraine’s Security Service informed about prevention of a large-scale cyber attack at the website of the Central Election Commission on its website.

It was noted that the cyber attack was targeted at the computer equipment which provides the work of the commission’s official website.

“The conclusion of the experts was that the cyber attack was targeted at blockage of access to the information about preparations to presidential elections in Ukraine. The special service experts defined that the attack was carried out under the technology http flood through generation of constant requests which made the work of the information system more difficult and blocked the access for ordinary users,” SBU press office reported.

The culprits used wide sites’ network based on old version of WordPress. This allowed hackers to use generations of large requests.

“In order to localize the cyber attack and removal of its negative consequences, the experts took some measures which topped negative influence on the operation of the website of Central Election Commission. The Security Service is checking a possible involvement of the Russian special services and hackers groups controlled by them,” the message says.
