The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has received the criminal proceeding on the murder of deputy Kherson Mayor and anti-corruption activist Kateryna Handziuk and intends to quickly establish an instigator of the crime. Vasyl Hrytsak, the Head of SBU made such statement at the briefing as Ukrainian News reported.
'We have already received the criminal proceeding (from the National Police, - 112 international), it is united with the proceeding against an instigator opened by our service,' he claimed.
Hrytsak noted that the SBU officers intend to solve this case quickly.
At the same time, he did not confirm or deny the information of Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko that the next week, the active events on the detention of an instigator will take place.
November 4, it became known that Kateryna Handziuk, Adviser of Kherson's Mayor, died at the age of 34. She was doused with sulphuric acid in July this year. According to preliminary information, the death was caused by thrombus detachment.
Later, the official reason for the death of Handziuk was specified; it was multiple organ failure and chemical burns.
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko expressed his condolences due to the death of the public activist. He required the law enforcement bodies to do everything possible to find the murderers and punish them.
