Ukraine’s Security Service detained Deputy Head of Kharkiv City Council Department under suspicion of cooperation with Russian special services, as the representative of Ukraine’s Security Service Counter Intelligence Department stated at the briefing, broadcasted by 112 Ukraine.
Colonel of Russian Security Service (FSB) Aleksandr Ushakov recruited the Ukrainian official in 2017.
Ushakov met with the Ukrainian official in 2016 in Nachalyk city, Russia. The official arrived in the aggressor state for touristic reasons.
Then, they met in Prague (Czech Republic), Thessaloniki (Greece), Belgrade (Belarus) and Belgorod (Russia).
“The Ukrainian explained his trips by touristic purposes and participation in different NGOs. We have defined that the Ukrainian citizen taking advantage of his position and access to certain information was gathering information about youth organizations, movement, their leaders, activity and funding different religious and nationalistic organizations, their projects, leaders, level of influence on the situation, etc.” SBU informed.
It should be noted that the key role of the 2nd service of Russian Security Service, where Ushakov served, is to control the activity of the so-called “ministries of state security in LDNR (Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics, - ed.)” which perform and plan subversive and special operations.
Officers of SBU counter-intelligence department detained him on March 5 in Kharkiv. He was served with charges concerning commission of a crime provided by the article of the Criminal Code of Ukraine on state treason. The court ruled to keep him in detention 60 days.
A pre-trial investigation is underway.
