Pavlo Sharoiko, a Ukrainian journalist, detained in Belarus was sentenced to eight years of imprisonment, as Ihor Kisim, Ukraine’s Ambassador to Belarus, said to the journalists, Naviny.By reports.

“Kisim has also stated that Sharaiko is now kept in KGB detention facility. He (Kisim) could not find out the exact term of the sentence and date of delivering judgment,” the message says.

It was also noted that recently Ukrainian consul visited Shyraiko. According to the consul, “the journalist is not complaining about the conditions”.

At the same time, there are not any other announcements concerning Shyraiko’s sentence from Ukraine’s and Belarus’s sides.

As it was reported earlier, on November 20 the representatives of Belarusian KGB stated that Ukrainian journalist Pavlo Sharoiko was detained for espionage. He allegedly confessed that he was the member of Ukraine’s military intelligence staff.

He was detained on October 25, though this became known on November 17 - Zurab Alasania, the Director General of the Public Broadcasting Company of Ukraine, reported this.

Besides, Belarus declared Igor Skvortsov, the Adviser to Ukraine’s Diplomatic Mission in Minsk, persona non-grata. Belarusian special services claim that he is the officer of the Intelligence General Directorate of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry, that he worked undercover.

Igor Kisim, Ukraine’s Ambassador to Belarus, called KGD’s statement on Ukraine’s “agent network” a nonsense.
