Mortality rate significantly exceeds birth rate

The number of people living in Ukraine decreased by 176 thousand over past year, according to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.

42 million 564.5 thousand people are residing in Ukraine as at January 1, 2017.

"The death rate is significantly higher that the fertility; 68 born per 100 dead people," Statistics Service informed.

The department noted that the data about population number covers all regions of the country except temporarily occupied territories of Crimea and Sevastopol. Information about natural and migration movement of residents was formed on the basis of current administrative data without Crimea, Sevastopol and part of ATO zone.
