Ukraine’s PM offers to lift responsibility for consequences from producers of Covid-19 vaccines

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmygal has registered at the Verkhovna Rada bill #5247 that lifts any responsibility for consequences from producers of the vaccine against Covid-19, medical workers and everyone involved in the vaccination campaign.

“Considering the circumstances during which the vaccines were developed for the prevention of Covid-10 that used as of today within the permission for urgent use for the fight against the pandemic, participants of COVAX program agree to release producers of the vaccines from the responsibility for particular risks that might appear as a result of the use of these vaccines,” the explanatory note says.

The bill offers to amend the Law of Ukraine ‘On drugs’ toward the state registration of the vaccines or other medical immunobiological preparations under the obligations.

Particularly, the law should be added with the next: “After the state registration of vaccines and other medical immunobiological preparations for specific prevention of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) under the obligations for urgent medical use the central body of the executive power that provides the formation and implements the state policy in the health sphere on the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has a right to undertake obligations from the name of Ukraine tied with the use of vaccine or other  medical immunobiological preparations for specific prevention of coronavirus disease (Covid-19), the state registration of which was held in correspondence with the demands of the current article, including the refusal from sovereign immunity in possible disputes toward such commitments, as well as release from general liability of the producer and/or owner of the product license, including medical employees involved in the holding of events tied with the vaccination for any consequences tied with the use of such vaccines or other medical immunobiological preparations for specific prevention of coronavirus disease (Covid-19)”.

Earlier, it was reported that Ukraine is not going to suspend the vaccination campaign with the use of CoviShield drug produced by the Serum Institute of India.

Due to the blood clots, some countries stopped the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine; particularly, Denmark, Austria, Estonia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Latvia and Cyprus. Norway is not an EU member but it also stopped the use of AstraZeneca. Later, Bulgaria, Thailand and Romania joined this list. Soon, Ireland and the Netherlands also refused fro AstraZeneca’s use.

Later, AstraZeneca Company stated its vaccine does not lead to blood clotting ability issues.
