The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a declaration on the situation in the PACE, condemning the attempt to cancel the restrictions against the Russian delegation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). 242 MPs voted in the affirmative as 112 Ukraine broadcasted.
Thus, the parliament decided to condemn the attempts to lift the restrictive measures against the permanent delegation of the Russian Federation in the PACE bypassing the resolutions of the assembly and amendments to the statutes that change the basic principles of the organization's work.
The Verkhovna Rada draws attention on the violations of the norms of the international law by Russia.
It is noted that the decision on the political motives is prepared in the PACE, which would allow the Russian delegation to freely return to the assembly, while Russia strongly refused from the fulfillment of the legal demands of the assembly.
The MPs of Ukraine state that the PACE can preserve the credibility only under the condition of the possibility of the provision of its own policy.
"Realizing that the destruction of the institution's basis will mean the recognition of the PACE of its political inability to follow its own decision and public demonstration of the depart from the values and principles of the Council of Europe – the supremacy of law, democracy and human rights, will force the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and its permanent delegation to the PACE to carry the complete reconsideration of the principles on which the cooperation with the Assembly is bases as well as the mechanisms of the cooperation.
The declaration comes into force since it is adopted.
