Ukraine’s parliament condemns elections held by Russia in Crimea

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine condemned the holding of the elections by Russia in the territory of annexed Crimea. 325 MPs voted for this decision (only Opposition platform – For life faction did not vote), as 112 Ukraine reported.

The MPs condemned another violation of the international law by the Russian Federation, the fact of the illegal voting in temporarily occupied territories of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol.

Moreover, the parliament urged the international society to assess illegal actions of Russia on organization and holding of the so-called local elections and continue and strengthen the international political and economic pressure on Russia.

On September 8, the voting day took place in Russia. The election campaigns of different levels took place, including occupied Crimea.

Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine called on international partners to give a principled assessment of Russia's illegal actions to organize and conduct the so-called "local elections" in occupied Crimea and to increase pressure on it. 

Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Estonia condemned holding of the elections in occupied Crimea by occupation authority and called them illegal.
