The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine abolished the criminal records for the registration of the candidates for the local elections. 325 MPs supported bill #3995 as 112 Ukraine TV channel reported.

The bill severs a point 9 of the first part of the 222nd article of the Election Code of Ukraine that the provision of the criminal records is needed for some candidates for the local elections.

“Thus, all candidates at the local elections will be on the same footing toward the confirmation of the absence of the previous charge and will mention it only in the autobiography,” the explanatory note states.

The goal of the bill is the simplification of the terms of the registration for the candidates from the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, regional, district and district city councils, as well as city, village, settlement councils.

As we reported, the Central Election Commission (CEC) announced the start of the electoral campaign for the upcoming local elections - September 5.

Local elections will be held in Ukraine on October 25, 2020. 326 MPs voted for the relevant resolution № 3809.
