Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Lyudmyla Denisova claimed that she met the representatives of the families of the Ukrainian sailors captured in the result of the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine in Kerch Strait as she reported on Facebook.
“The representative of the Naval Forces assured that all payments to the prisoners of war provided by a law will be assessed in the full volume and paid to their families,” she said.
Denisova appealed to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) about the denial of access by Russia for the provision of the humanitarian aid to the captives and discussed the strengthening of the defense of the rights of the sailors and their families with First Vice Speaker Iryna Gerashchenko, representatives of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of ukraine, Foreign Ministry, Ministry of Temporarily Occupied Territories, leadership of Mejlis and human right activists.
According to her, they agreed with the representatives of the families to constantly communicate and inform each other on the current situation.
The ombudswoman assured that she is ready to go to the detention places of the Ukrainian sailors at any time.
Earlier the so-called “Kyiv District Court” of Simferopol has begun to choose the restrictive measure for the Ukrainian sailorsdetained in the evening of November 25 in Kerch Strait. It is reported about the arrest of Serhiy Tsybizov and Viktor Varemez. They are arrested for two months until January 25, 2019.
As we reported earlier, the coast guard ships of the Russian Navy acted aggressively against the ships of the Ukrainian Navy, which have been carrying out a scheduled transition from Odesa port to Mariupol port in the Sea of Azov.
Kyiv demanded from Moscow to immediately provide the medical service to the wounded sailors and provide them urgent return to the Ukrainian territory. According to the Naval Forces of Ukraine, six sailors were wounded and two of them were in the critical condition.
Russian Ombudsman Tatyana Moskalkova named the exact number of the detained Ukrainian servicemen – 24. Moskalkova added that “procedural actions connected with the establishment of the facts of the events. If a military vessel enters the waters, certainly, this is a violation of the borders, this is a socially dangerous act, which demands a special qualification and procedure.”
Ukrainian servicemen taken captive in Kerch Strait are being forced to give false testimony. The Commander of Ukraine’s Navy noted that the lawyers have already met with these military.
