The Ukrainian Association of Football (UAF) together with the technical sponsor of the national team of Ukraine, Spanish Joma Company have presented the new uniform of the team for Euro 2020 as President of UAF Andriy Pavelko reported on Facebook.
“The national team of Ukraine will play in Euro 2020 in a new – special uniform. The main attribute of it is the amulet and symbol cherished by every Ukrainian. It is the most precious thing for all of us – the outline of our country. The united and indivisible motherland with Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk, Kyiv, my native Dnipro, Lviv, Odesa, and all cities and villages, with the main melody of the childhood – the melody of the national anthem. Where “Glory to Ukraine” is welcomed with the answer “Glory to the heroes!” and it will be also present at the uniform and it will inspire our football players for new victories.
We believe that the outline of Ukraine will give strength to the players as they will fight for the whole of Ukraine. The whole of Ukraine, from Sevastopol and Simferopol up to Kyiv; from Donetsk and Luhansk up to Uzhhorod, will support them during each match. It is very important for our football players, who are very worried and dream about playing better at Euro 2020, and for millions of our fans who believe in the team of Andriy Shevchenko. Football and the national team unite Ukraine. Glory to Ukraine,” Pavelko wrote.
Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes! salute originates from the different military formations during the Ukrainian War of Independence (from 1917 to 1921) and the greeting of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army. It was widely used during the protests in Kyiv in 2013-2014.
Since 2018, it is the official salute of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The leaders of the foreign delegation also greet the guard of honor with this salute.
The Ukrainian national team will hold the first match in the new uniform on June 7 in the friendly game with Cyprus. The team of Ukraine will start its way at Euro 2020 on June 13 during the game with the national team of the Netherlands.
