National Guard of Ukraine received the status of a full member in the Association of the European and Mediterranean Police Forces and Gendarmeries with Military Status (FIEP). This was stated in the message of the National Guard press service.
"At the summit of directors and commanders of the Association of the European and Mediterranean Police Forces (FIEP) in the city of Amman (Jordan) on October 16, it was decided to grant the National Guard the status of a full member of the Association," the message said.
The decision was taken unanimously.
According to Lieutenant-General Nikolai Balan, Deputy Commander of the National Guard, the granting of the status of a full member is the recognition of the National Guard as an equal law enforcement structure among similar structures not only in Europe, but throughout the world.
"Today, one of the most important strategic goals before the National Guard of Ukraine since its establishment has been achieved ... The receipt by the National Guard of Ukraine of the status of a full member of the FIEP Association is the result of hard work on reforming in the frameworks of Euro-Atlantic course of the state. This event is a powerful impetus and a clear signal to the continuation of reforms in the National Guard of Ukraine, the adaptation of Ukraine's national legislation to democratic norms and standards of the world's leading countries," Balan noted.
In opinion of the deputy commander, recent events in eastern Ukraine proved the need to have a strong law enforcement structure with a military status capable of effectively responding to internal and external threats.
As it was reported earlier fighters of military unit 3033, the Special Forces platoon of the National Guard of Ukraine participated in a regular drill on Tuesday, May 30. The exercise designed to improve skills of deterring acts of sabotage and tracing enemy saboteurs took place in Zaporizhya region, southeastern Ukraine.
According to the press service of the National Guard, the drills were organized in order to check the level of effective cooperation among the military and the police in emergency situations.
