The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine calls on foreign states and international organizations to increase political and diplomatic pressure on the Russian Federation, in particular by expanding sanctions against it due to the holding of elections to the State Duma in the temporarily occupied territories of Donbas and Crimea. This was reported by the press service of the Foreign Ministry.
"We call on all states and international organizations to strongly condemn Russia's illegal actions, clearly state non-recognition of election results in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and affirm the illegitimacy of the Russian State Duma. We also call to increase political and diplomatic pressure on the Russian Federation, including by strengthening sanctions," the message reads.
The Ministry strongly protests and condemns the illegal organization and holding by the Russian Federation of elections of deputies to the State Duma of the Russian Federation in the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol on September 17-19, 2021 as well as compelling Ukrainian citizens with illegally issued Russian passports to take part in these elections in the temporarily occupied territories in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
The Foreign Ministry noted that they consider such actions of the Russian Federation as a continuation of gross violations of state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
"The holding of elections by the Russian Federation in the temporarily occupied territories of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol is illegal and their results will be null and void.Involvement of Ukrainian citizens, living in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, along with almost 1.5 million voters currently living in the temporarily occupied Crimea, will significantly distort the results of the elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation and call into question their legitimacy in whole," the statement reads.
It is noted that all those involved in organizing and conducting illegal voting in the temporarily occupied Crimea, as well as organizing participation in these elections of Ukrainian citizens with illegally issued Russian passports in the temporarily occupied territories in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, will be held responsible in line with Ukrainian law.
Earlier, the Eastern Human Rights Group announced that the citizens of occupied Donbas with Russian passports will be taken to Rostov oblast on September 17, 18, and 19, to participate in the elections at the Russian State Duma.
Meanwhile, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) observes the massive illegal issuance of Russian passports in the temporarily occupied Donbas. According to the press office of the SBU, the local "government" of Donetsk and Luhansk "people's republics" is doing this to make sure that Ukrainians participate in the Russian parliamentary election campaign.
As it was reported earlier, as of the beginning of May, almost 600,000 Ukrainian citizens received the Russian passports. Primarily, the documents were given to local authorities, teachers, doctors.
