The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine stresses that any participation in the electoral process in the territory of Crimea occupied by Russia is illegal. This was announced today to journalists by Deputy Foreign Minister Vasyl Bodnar, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

"We constantly emphasize that Crimea is Ukraine, we address all international organizations and partners with a clear signal: any participation in the voting process in the territory of Crimea is illegal," the diplomat said.

The deputy minister also stressed that observers, public activists or politicians who visit the occupied Crimea to participate in election observation "are considered as persons who later will be prohibited from entering Ukraine and fall under appropriate international sanctions."

All 160 members of the Russian Federation Council voted in favour of the decision. Previously the election was scheduled for the beginning of March, but it was postponed to March 18.
