Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin confirmed the meeting of Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko and US President Donald Trump but he did not specify the date. This was announced by the Minister when answering about such possibility of Poroshenko’s visit to the USA next week, reports Interfax-Ukraine agency.
"The meeting will take place, of course, we are preparing it, but we must hold the intrigue. Svyatoslav Tsegolko (President’s press secretary) will make a statement in the near future at the same time with our American friends, but we are now working on the contents of the speech, " Klimkin said.
The minister also noted that the agenda of the meeting will include questions about Russia's fulfillment of its obligations under the Minsk agreements, as well as the issue of the occupied Crimea, access to it by international observers, bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and the United States, and assistance to Ukrainian reforms. Also, there will be questions regarding security cooperation between Ukraine and the United States. The head of the foreign policy department announced "important political decisions in this sphere."
The parties while preparing for the meeting discussed the way US could participate in negotiations on the settlement of the conflict in Donbas, according to Minister.
“It was important for us to agree with our American partners about the format of their participation before the meeting, whether it will be a parallel format or cooperation in certain levels in Normandy format. That’s why expect many important news shortly,” Klimkin announced.
Ukrainian and American side will continue to search for options for cooperation to put pressure on the Russian Federation, according to Foreign Minister.
Earlier it was reported Poroshenko will meet Trump in Washington. It was expected that the visit of the president will be officially confirmed.
