Ukrainian Commissioner for Language Protection Tetiana Monakhova told about her first steps and tasks in the office. 112 Ukraine reported this.
According to Tetiana Monakhova, her main task as Language Ombudsman to ensure Ukrainian citizens’ rights to receive information and services in state language.
The first step, according to her, is to start a secretariat, because the office of Language Ombudsman is something “new” in the history of Ukraine.
“I gain the powers de-jure six months after the appointment. The first half of the year, we need to launch the law mechanisms for protection of Ukrainian language, to create the secretariat of the Ombudsman, to establish a public dialogue, etc. There are a lot of tasks,” Monakhova said.
As it was reported earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine had appointed Tetiana Monakhova a State Language Commissioner.
Ministry of Culture of Ukraine proposed the candidacy of Tetiana Monakhova. Monakhova worked as the Head of the Department of Journalism at Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University in Mykolaiv. Tetiana Monakhova was born in Mykolaiv on July 2, 1980. In 2002, she graduated from the Mykolaiv V.O.Sukhomlynskyi National University in the specialty “Teacher of Ukrainian language and literature and English and foreign literature.”
