Ukraine's Interior Ministry: Police should assume measure to increase road safety

The roads are overloaded in the midst of vacation season and it creates an increased risk

The police should strengthen measure for the provision of the security at the roads. Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Serhy Yarovy claimed this during the urgent conference call on July 20.

The conference was gathered due to two car accidents in Mykolaiv and Zhytomyr regions.

Yarovy noted that the special attention should be paid to the safety of the passenger transport.

"The active vacation season is a period of the increased risk at the loaded Ukrainian roads. We cannot allow so numerous losses of lives that became the consequence of the terrible car accidents that happened today in Mykolaiv and Zhytomyr regions," he emphasized.

The deputy minister also noted that the investigation of the morning car accidents is under control of the National Police leadership and the heads of the police in Zhytomyr and Mykolaiv regions will report about the results.

As we reported a road accident claimed lives of five people not far from Kryve Ozero town in Mykolaiv region, southern Ukraine. Another twelve were taken to a hospital with various injuries.

Later a road accident in northern Ukraine occurred. A passenger bus ran into a van on the 127th kilometer of Kyiv-Chop highway, specifically in its section in Zhytomyr region. The crash killed ten people, and ten more sustained injuries.
