Wednesday, February 13, Ukraine’s Government ordered that Ulyana Suprun is allowed to act within the competence of Ukraine’s Health Minister, despite specific powers as a member of the Cabinet of Ministers, Health Ministry reports on Facebook.
“This order reflects a consolidated decision of the Government which unblocks most crucial issues of the work of the Health Ministry. This is the Cabinet’s reaction to the decision of Kyiv District Administrative Court to block the work of the Ministry,” the message says.
This order allows distribution of vaccines and drugs in the regions, sending 44 Ukrainians for treatment abroad, continuing the process of constructing children’s hospital Okhmatdyt, purchasing equipment and making other immediate decisions.
The representatives of the Ministry assured that the relevant documents would be signed any time soon.
Earlier, it was reported that drugs for patients with cancer, hepatitis, HIV and AIDS positive people cannot be distributed due to the suspension of Suprun.
As we reported, Suprun's role as acting health minister was questioned by MP from the Radical Party of Lyashko Ihor Mosiychuk. The court explained that such a decision was made as Suprun has dual citizenship. Apart from the Ukrainian one, she also has a U.S. passport.
The government of Ukraine expressed the support of Suprun, as well as the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, did.
