Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs of demands to let the consuls to the 19-year-old Ukrainian Pavlo Gryb, who is being held in jail in Krasnodar (Russia). This is reported on the Foreign Ministry's website.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine demands the Russian side to promptly provide access for Ukrainian consuls to the detained citizen of Ukraine Pavlo Gryb, to provide full information about the place, reasons and circumstances of his detention, conditions of detention and ensure his immediate return to Ukraine," the Foreign Ministry statement said.
The Ministry voiced protest to the Russian side in connection with the groundless arrest of Pavlo Gryb on August 25 and his detention in a pre-trial detention center in Krasnodar.
Ukraine also accused the Russian Federation of violating international law and called the case "politically motivated".
"It is absolutely unacceptable that the Russian side systematically violates provisions of consular convention between Ukraine and the Russian Federation on timely information about the detention of Ukrainian citizens (within 3 days of arrest) and help exercise the right of the consul of Ukraine to visit a detained or convicted Ukrainians."
In case of the arrest of Pavlo Gryb, the message of the FSB Directorate in Krasnodar on August 25 was sent to the Consulate General of Ukraine in Rostov-on-Don by a recommended letter only on August 31 and came to the consulate on September 7, that is 14 days after the arrest, "the Foreign Ministry said.
As it was reported earlier Pavlo Gryb who was considered lost in Belarus was found at Krasnodar prison. The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine confirmed this information.
