Ukraine’s Justice Minister, Pavlo Petrenko said on Tuesday that his department intended to file a lawsuit to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) against the Russian company Rosneft on the case of damages to the Ukrainian state for over 25,7 million dollars by December 19. However, because of searches in the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU), these plans are in jeopardy. The minister said this on air of Freedom of Speech program on one of the TV channels.
"The Justice Ministry and the office of ECHR Commissioner were preparing a lawsuit against the Russian company Rosneft regarding 25,7 million dollars of losses caused to Ukraine by the illegal seizure of property by this company and its affiliated structures in Ukraine. In fact, the judge ruled out that it was necessary to submit these documents and seize them until December 15. Whereas we were going to file a lawsuit against Rosneft before December 19. In fact, the opportunity of filing a lawsuit against the Russian company is undermined, "he said.
The minister also noted that the court decision on the seizure of these documents is now being executed.
As it was reported earlier Ukraine’s Justice Ministry accused the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) inspectors of committing criminal offence during the searches in the ministry and filed to the Prosecutor General's Office. Justice Ministry said the bureau had seized of documents without a court order.
He noted that the charge papers say about searches NABU detectives conducted in cabinet number 413 of the Justice Ministry of Ukraine at the Architector Horodetsky street in Kyiv.
Earlier the agents of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) held the searches in the office of the official of the Ministry of Justice and at the home of this official due to the operative information on the risk of the destruction of the number of the documents as the press service of the NABU reported.
"The emergence of the investigative action was grounded by the operative information on the risk of the destruction of the number of the documents that should be provided by the Justice Ministry within the investigation of the criminal proceeding by the NABU agents. This information confirmed during the search and the rest of the documents were confiscated", the message said.
Also, the NABU added that the official records that should be provided by the Justice Ministry to the NABU were also confiscated at the home of the official.
