Defense Minister of Ukraine Andriy Zahorodnyuk considers the possibility of cancelation of the conscription into the armed forces and transferring the Armed Forces to the NATO standards with the creation of a professional army, as 1+1 TV channel reported.
“It is my goal to abolish the conscription. But it will not take place soon, during the year… I believe that it is the position of the state that we move to the professional army with the NATO standards, prepared and equipped,” the minister said.
He is sure that each of the Ukrainian militaries should have a clear military career and his/her rights should be protected. The minister added that good and modern hardware for Ukrainian soldiers is the part of the military possibilities of Ukraine.
On October 1, autumn military conscription has begun in Ukraine. It is noted that 15,200 people will be sent for military service. The majority of the recruits, 9,000 will be sent to the Armed Forces of Ukraine; 800 to the State Service of Ukraine for Transport Safety; 4,400 to the State Border Guard Service; 1,000 to the National Guard of Ukraine.
The autumn draft for military service will continue until December 31.
