Oleh Slobodyan, an assistant director of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, named the reason why Russian border guards took away the checkpoints on the administrative border with annexed Crimea. According to him, the occupying authority wants to introduce a control system like the one in Russia, in Crimea. He said that on air of 112 Ukraine TV channel.
“We are speaking about the so-called pre-check posts. They appeared in close proximity to the administrative border before Russia annexed Crimea back in 2014. Now they are taking away these checkpoints, leaving only those for implementing border crossing control. However, they leave CCTV cameras at the pre-check posts. In fact, they introduce the control system in the annexed peninsula in order to bring it to the standards, introduced in other parts of the border,” Slobodyan said.
As we reported earlier, Russian border guards dismantled the roadblocks on the administrative border in Crimea. Russian checkpoints continue functioning as normal.
