Ukraine’s Defense Ministry is ready to form a military battalion from the activists of Crimean Tatar NGO ‘Asker’. This was announced by the Defense Minister of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak during the meeting with the head of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov, reports the press service of the organization.

“Armed Forces of Ukraine are ready to consider appeals of ‘Asker’ NGO members who will volunteer by legal procedure for the service in Ukraine’s Army. Such military unit can be formed on the basis of the marine brigade of the Ukrainian Navy,” the press service reported.

Defense Ministry promised to take into account traditions and religion of the military officers who will serve in it.

“Besides, conditions for religious needs of the believers of different confessions will be provided,” Defense Ministry said.

Earlier it was reported that Chongar incident was closed, according to Chubarov. Military officers and police have left ‘Asker’ base.

But the conflict could have been avoided if Kyiv had created a separate unit of Crimean Tatars in the Armed Forces or in the National Guard of Ukraine, where Crimean citizens and people of other nationalities could serve, according to him.
