Statement by the KGB of Belarus about the alleged work of the Ukrainian agency network in the country is "absurd". This was stated by Ambassador of Ukraine to Belarus Ihor Kyzym in his interview with Radio Liberty.

According to him, Ukrainian journalist Pavlo Sharoyko, who was accused of creating this "network", actually maintained contacts with employees of the Ukrainian diplomatic mission and was engaged in gathering information as a journalist.

"Pavlo was gathering information as a journalist. And from journalists like himself he was receiving information. Everyone who worked as a journalist knows how it is done. If they say that he had created some kind of network, then every journalist has his own network," he said.

Kyzym also called the "absurd" declaration of the adviser of the Ukrainian Embassy Ihor Skvortsov persona non-grata by the Belarusian authorities in connection with the fact that he allegedly is an employee of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense.

"When I was in the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, I was given a note on the declaration of Ihor Skvortsov as persona non-grata. I replied that I would not object, I cannot refuse, and Ihor Skvortsov left in some time. I said that it was absurd, but I had to do it, "said Kyzym.

Ukrainian diplomat believes that in this way Minsk is "whipping up tension."

"These spy games do not make me happy. The situation is being aggravated. I am surprised at this, I do not believe that Pavlo Sharoyko has done any damage to the interests of Belarus. Belarusians are our brothers, as Lukashenko says. We have never conducted activities directed against Belarus," Kyzym stated.

As it was reported earlier Belarus announced the advisor of Ukrainian Embassy in Minsk Ihor Skvortsov persona non-grata due to the detention of the Ukrainian Radio's special correspondent Pavlo Sharoyko.

The KGB also said that Sharoyko allegedly confirmed that "coordination of his intelligence activities" was carried out by Skvortsov, who was called in the Belarusian department an employee of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, and he acted allegedly under cover of the post of adviser to the embassy of Ukraine in Belarus.
