In the due year, in the middle of 2018 at the latest, Ukraine will be able to return the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Such opinion was expressed by Deputy Minister for the Occupied Territories Georgiy Tuka, "New time" wrote.

"Today, Russia is ready to surrender Donbas only on its own terms, however, I am sure Ukraine will take over the initiative and realize its own scenario to return the occupied territories. I really hope that this will happen in the next year, by the middle of 2018 at the latest. However, it is critically important to retain the support of Europe and the United States," the official said.

According to Tuka, the desire of Ukraine and support of the world community are the factors for such outcome.

"There are lots of facts to support the Kremlin's willingness to surrender Donbas. Russian Federation clearly does not see these areas in its composition. One of the most simple proofs can be seen when comparing the activities of Russian invaders in the Crimea and Donbas," he said.

In Donbas, the Deputy Minister noted, there is widespread looting and destruction of enterprises. "They actually doom the region to economic extinction. It is not observed in Crimea. Russian authorities, on the contrary, forces the large private companies to invest in the Crimean business projects and infrastructure facilities. This is a fundamental difference," he says.

"I am an optimist. I hope and want to believe that there finally will be peace; that we will return both Donbas and Crimea. At the same time, in my point of view, we need to focus on the following areas: the fight against domestic populism, effective fight against corruption, military solution of the conflict. And in this order exactly,"  Georgiy Tuka summed up.

Previously, Tuka said that Ukraine will not be able to return the annexed Crimea in the next 3-5 years.
