The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the draft order of the president of Ukraine on the termination of the Agreement on the joint cooperation on research and use of outer space as the proper decision was made during the governmental meeting.
“In accordance with paragraph 3, part one of the Article 106 of the Constitution of Ukraine Article 24 of the Law of Ukraine On the international treaties of Ukraine, I order to withdraw from the Agreement on the joint cooperation on research and use of the outer space dated December 30, 1991, in Minsk,” the order states.
The explanatory note states that the 1991 agreement aims for settlement of key issues tied with the fulfilling by states-members of the Agreement on the joint cooperation on research and use of the outer space. The basis for the joint activity is the inter-state programs, development, and implementation of which are coordinated by the Interstate Council on Space.
“The mentioned agreement is outdated in general, in modern realities it lost its practical meaning; it does not meet the modern state of the cooperation between the countries, and consequently, it is not applied,” the document states.
Earlier, Ukraine withdrew from the Protocol on approval of Regulation on Interstate council on space.
