Ukraine plans to start mass vaccination against coronavirus in a short time. This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelensky, the press service of the head of state reports.
"In a short time, we will start a large-scale state vaccination program. We really need to protect the most "vulnerable" social groups, and the state will definitely fulfill this task," the president said.
Zelensky also noted that Ukraine signed a contract for the supply of a vaccine against Covid-19 with the Chinese company Sinovac Biotech, since it is considered an experienced vaccine manufacturer.
The President's Office stressed that the Sinovac Biotech vaccine will be used primarily for those citizens who are at critical risk of infection and those who perform critical functions in the fight against the pandemic.
As we reported earlier, Ukraine has signed the first contract with Sinovac Biotech for the supply of 1.9 million doses of coronavirus vaccine.
Thus, Ukrainian Health Ministry will purchase 1,913,316 doses at the price of 504 hryvnias (17,8 dollars) for one dose. However, Ukrainians will be vaccinated at the expense of the state budget.
It is reported that the drug has not yet been registered for use. The World Health Organization (WHO) is expected to approve it next month.
