Ukraine in the near future plans to purchase at least 2 million tons of coal from the United States. This was announced by Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko in his interview for Ukrainian TV channels on Sunday, June 25, published by the presidential press service.
"We will have guaranteed supplies of at least 2 million tons of coal. All conditions have been created for this. Only contracts for energy security are still to be concluded," Poroshenko said.
At the same time, the head of state noted that Ukraine will have full cooperation of US Congress, Department of Commerce and Department of Energy and the Administration.
At the same time, he reminded that after the seizure of Ukrainian enterprises on the occupied territories of Donbas, Ukraine refused to buy coal from those territories. Because of this, to ensure transparency on the energy market parties agreed on supplies of Pennsylvania coal to Ukraine at competitive prices.
As it was reported earlier Ukraine’s runaway oligarch sells coal of occupied Donbas to Turkey. A number of Kurchenko’s companies conducted financial operations, usually it was ‘Petroleum Capital’.
