Ukraine will supply gas to Moldova for free as the country suffers the shortage of fuel after the end of the contract with Gazprom as Secretary of the National Security and Defense Center of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov reported during the briefing.
It is noted that Moldova has asked the help of Ukraine on supplies of gas amid the gas crisis. The proper question will be considered at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.
He also added that Ukraine is interested in the energy security of Chișinău that is why gas will be supplied for free but for an agreed period of time with the term of return.
As we reported, the Moldovan government has declared a state of emergency in the energy sector due to a gas shortage that arose after the expiration of a gas contract with Gazprom, which has not yet been extended.
Authorities are considering alternatives to importing natural gas using interconnections with Ukraine and Romania.
Earlier, it was stated that Naftogaz of Ukraine has the opportunity to import gas from various European countries and calculates the option of importing from Romania.
