The team of 40 Ukrainian veterans will participate for the first time at the international multi-sport event for wounded, injured or ill service personnel and veterans Warrior Games in the U.S. as the Ministry for Ukraine’s Veteran’s Affairs reported.
"Ukraine's inclusion in the Warrior Games will help expand the opportunities for sports rehabilitation of Ukrainian veterans and servicemen in 2021, which is especially relevant in the context of the pandemic and mass postponement of events, including Invictus Games the Hague until 2022,” Coordinator of Invictus Games and Warrior Games in Ukraine Oksana Horbach noted.
The candidates for participation at the Warrior Games will be selected at the national competitions in the mid of May 2021 in Kyiv. The registration for qualifying rounds will take place from March 22 until April 30, 2021. The details will be provided on the official page of Warrior Games in Ukraine.
The United States Department of Defense will organize this event for eight year in a row. This year, the competition will be held from September 12 up to September 22 in Orlando, Florida.
The program of the Warrior Games includes 12 kinds of sport: archery, golf, shooting, track, cycling, swimming, indoor rowing, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby, powerlifting and sitting volleyball. The teams from eight countries will participate: the U.S., Ukraine, Australia, Canada, the UK, Denmark, the Netherlands and Georgia.
The Ukrainian defenders participate in Invictus Games since 2017. In 2018, the Ukrainian national team completed its participation in the Invictus Games, having won seven gold, ten silver, and three bronze medals.
