Ukraine will propose draft resolution of UN Security Council on peacekeeping mission in Donbas, when it will coordinate position with foreign partners. This was stated by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin on air of one of the Ukrainian TV channels, reports Interfax-Ukraine.
"As for the Russian resolution, nothing has begun, except for very formal consultations, and just one round - to simply react. We will not be caught on this hook. First, the general position with the "great seven ", with the EU, China is also important. Only then will we go with our resolution, "the Foreign Minister said.
"But this will be common one, and not just our resolution," the minister added.
Answering questions, Klimkin clarified that "Ukrainian side has a draft resolution, and it is agreed upon with friends of Ukraine."
"We will introduce it at the very moment when we will have a common position not only with our friends but also with all the main players. And when Russia can not 100% start the game, as it always does, to create conditions for weakening of mission mandate, "the diplomat explained, stressing that there cannot be a weakening of the mandate of peacekeepers.
In addition, Klimkin noted that the first resolution, which will be approved by the UN Security Council, will be technical and will not provide for the mandate of the entire mission.
"After this resolution or in parallel with it ... there will be a mission that the UN Secretary-General will send in order to understand what means and forces both in terms of time and organization of the process are really needed," the minister said.
As it was reported earlier the parliamentarians of Ukraine and Canada discussed the issue of UN peacekeepers in Donbas. The parliamentarians emphasized the necessity on the deepening of the cooperation in the different spheres."
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko paid the official visit to Canada. He met with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland, Premier of Ontario province Kathleen Wynne, the Canadian parliamentarians and senators and local enterprisers and community. The presidential administration reported that Ukraine got the assurances from Canada that it supports the deployment of the UN peacekeeping mission in Donbas.
