Ukraine intends to file a lawsuit to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) against Russia due to the violation of the rights of the Ukrainian political prisoners. Ivan Lishchyna, the Deputy Justice Minister for ECHR affairs claimed this as Ukrainian News reported.
'This year we plan to file not only the sixth lawsuit but also several others. But we do not reveal the details because we are in the active gathering of the information and it is too early to disclose the content of the planned lawsuits. But we can say that the sixth lawsuit concerns the Ukrainian political prisoners. We gather the information and form the claim', Lishchyna said.
He also noted that Ukraine has already filed five lawsuits against Russia. Two of them concern the annexation of Crimea and violation of the human rights in the peninsula, another two concern the violations in Donbas. One lawsuit concerns the transfer of Donbas children to Russia.
Earlier Ukraine hired British lawyer Ben Emmerson for 140, 000 who previously defended the family of murdered Russian intelligence officers Aleksandr Litvinenko to represent Ukraine at the ECHR.
