The Ukrainian side will demand to set the date when Ukraine will pass 25 Russians convicted in Ukraine in exchange for the Ukrainian political prisoners kept in Russian at the next meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group, as Iryna Gerashchenko, First Vice Spokesperson of Ukraine’s Parliament, Ukraine’s representative to the humanitarian subgroup of the Trilateral Contact Group, reported on Facebook.

“We had a brief meeting with Ukraine’s representative to the Trilateral Contact Group Yevhen Marchuk. We have prepared a statement to the OSCE representatives and Russian in the Trilateral Contact Group and humanitarian group demanding to bring to the fore the date of exchange of Russian and Ukrainian political prisoners at the session on March 27,” she wrote.

She also added that earlier, Russian Ombudsman Tatyana Moskalkova said that she did not have an official mandate to deal with the question of exchange or release, it is within the competence of the Trilateral Contact Group in Minsk.

According to Gerashchenko, Russian representatives refuse from discussing the release of Russians in exchange for Ukrainians under the formula 25/25 insisting that “this is the issue of the Ombudsmen”.

“Unfortunately, some OSCE representatives support this position trying to offload the responsibility onto the Ombudsmen. Along with Marchuk we have sent these public statements of Moskalkova and our immediate demands to set the date of the exchange to the Trilateral Contact Group. We propose to do this in March,” she stressed.
