The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the bill #2255 on the creation of the national body on intellectual property. 245 MPs supported the decision, as 112 Ukraine TV channel reported.

The bill provides the creation of the bilateral system of the state management of the sphere of intellectual property. The authorities on the forming and implementation of the stay policy in the mentioned sphere should be performed by the Ministry of Economy Development, Trade, and Agriculture.

However, particular functions of the implementation of the state policy in this sphere will be performed by the National body of intellectual property. It will be responsible for the issuance of protection certificates (patents, documents) for objects of intellectual property.

The body will work as the entity of public law (state organization) and it will subordinate to the Ministry of Economy.

As we reported earlier, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) published a fresh report - The Global Innovation Index for 2019. Ukraine went down by 4 positions - from 43rd to 47th in the list of 126 countries. At the same time, in recent years, the innovative potential of the country has shown a slow growth - rather, due to global economic trends, than due to the development within Ukraine.
