Ukraine will continue to look for guilty in the death of journalist Andrea Rocchelli and his translator Andriy Myronov as Deputy Interior Minister Anton Herashchenko reported.
“Last autumn, after the horrible and unfair sentence for Vitaliy Markiv, 24 years of imprisonment, at the initiative of the Interior Ministry, the case was passed from the Security Service of Ukraine to the police. The huge complex of investigative actions, expert studies were held,” Herashchenko stated.
He noted that it was extremely difficult to investigate the death of Rocchelli in six years after the incident.
“But in fact we came to the fact that Vitaliy could not be involved in it. The investigation of the murder of Italian journalist Rocchelli and his translator Andriy Myronov continues and we will look for those who are really involved in this murder. We will continue the case until its complete end,” Herashchenko noted.
As we reported earlier, Vitaliy Markiv is a member of the National Guard of Ukraine. Italy accused him of involvement in the murder of Italian photographer Andrea Rocchelli, killed in Donetsk region in 2014.
In 2017, the police arrested Markiv in Bologna airport as he came there to visit his mother. Earlier this year, the Italian court sentenced him to 24 years behind the bars under these charges.
Yesterday, on November 3, the Appeal Court in Milan acquitted Markiv of all charges.
