The Ukrainian border guards will celebrate their professional holiday on April 30. Petro Poroshenko, the President of Ukraine claimed this at the event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the creation of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine as 112 Ukraine broadcasted.
‘As the president of Ukraine and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, I made a decision to change the date of the celebration of the border guards’ professional holiday. I signed an order on the establishment of the Border Guards Day on April 30’, the president claimed.
According to Poroshenko, this holiday should become consonant with the real events in Ukraine.
Also, the Ukrainian president noted that 825 soldiers-border guards got the State awards for their courage and heroism, one of them was awarded the order of ‘Golden Star’.
‘Today I have the great honor to award one more Hero of Ukraine Star to the relatives of Colonel Yevhen Pikus, to his mother and brother who is also a border guard. Yevhen died bravely in August 2014 near Talove, Stanytsia-Luhanska region during the fight against the Russian diversion intelligence group that acted under cover of the armored personnel carriers, combat helicopters of Russia’s Armed Forces. Despite the advantage of the enemy, its personnel and equipment, our border guards forced the invaders to step back’, he added.
Moreover, Ukraine observed a minute of silence in memory of the perished border guards.
’70 courageous Ukrainian border guards, the faithful sons of Ukraine died in the heavy fighting with the Russian occupants. I ask to honor their solemn memory with the minute of silence’, Poroshenko said.
