Ukraine plans to ban plastic utensils, appliances and straws for drinks. The relevant bill was announced by the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine Roman Abramovsky on his Facebook page.
“Together with the experts of the EU APENA2 project, we have developed a bill restricting the circulation and production of disposable plastic products - based on the provisions of the EU Directive 2019 (2019/904) on disposable plastic. I hope that by the end of October, together with the Committee on Ecology and Oleh Bondarenko, we will register the relevant bill to the Parliament of Ukraine,” Abramovsky said.
According to the Minister, the document prescribes a ban on the production, import into the territory of Ukraine and the introduction of the following disposable plastic products:
▪️ cutlery (forks, spoons, knives, spoons, sticks, skewers, beverage mixers);
▪️ dishware (plates, glasses, etc.);
▪️ ball sticks and bases for them;
▪️ hygienic cotton swabs;
▪️ containers for food and beverages;
▪️ caps from beverage containers;
▪ containers for food and beverages made of expanded polystyrene;
▪️ products made of oxo-biodegradable plastic.
The document also offers to introduce labeling for some products that contain plastic, but are not yet banned, in particular, for: wet wipes, personal hygiene products, diapers, tobacco products with filters. The new label will be a sign for consumers that such products have a negative impact on the environment, so it is better to reduce its use or abandon it entirely.
It is planned that all bans will come into force within one year after the adoption of the bill. During this time, manufacturers, importers and trade facilities will be able to adapt to the new requirements.
As it was reported earlier, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted in the second reading and in general the bill #2051-1 on the restriction of the use of plastic bags in the territory of Ukraine
