The index is calculated on the basis of 42 indicators joined in 5 key categories: size of the government (top marginal tax rate, government enterprises, and investment), legal system and property rights, sound money, freedom to trade internationally and regulation.
According to the research, Ukraine moved up in the rating from 149th to 134th place during one year, however, it still enters the number of the world countries with the lowest level of the economic freedom.
Ukraine's situation with the judicial independence and impartial court is the worst among the world countries. However, the situation with the top marginal income tax rate is the best in Ukraine.
Ukraine shares its 134th place with Benin. The nearest European "neighbor" of Ukraine in the rating is Belarus that was researched for the first time this year. It took the 122nd place.
The highest level of the economic freedom in the world is in Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand and Switzerland. Georgia, the U.S., and the U.K. also entered TOP-10.
Earlier, Ukraine took 88th place in the global rating of the quality of life for 2017. The index determining the place of the country in the rating was made considering such indicators as life expectancy, level of education, and incomes. Ukraine was rated at 0.751 points (with a maximum of 1) and took 88th place out of 189 countries.
Also, the passport of Ukrainian citizen took 25th place across the range of opportunities provided to the holder of this document, according to the data by Global Passport Power Rank 2018.
