Ukraine strengthens protection of border with EU in three regions

Such decision was made to counter illegal migration

Almost a hundred Ukrainian border guards are to protect the state border with the countries of the European Union within the Volyn, Transcarpathian and Chernivtsi regions. This was reported by the press service of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.  

The department added that at the border with the EU countries there is a certain activation of illegal activities related to illegal migration and illegal movement of excisable goods across the Ukrainian border.

"Aiming to to counteract illegal activity on the eve of the holidays, it was decided to organize and conduct measures to strengthen the protection of the state border in the areas of Lutsk, Chop, Mukachevo and Chernivtsi border detachments," the report said.

As it was reported earlier on Dec.7, Ukrainian and Moldovan border guards held their first joint patrol on the part of Ukrainian border with the unrecognized Transnistria, the press service of the Ukrainian Border Guard Service informed. It is emphasized that the aim of the measures is to ensure reliable protection of the state border. The Border Guard Service also added that it’s only the Ukrainian side that started enhanced patrolling.
