The situation around the national selection for Eurovision 2019 has undermined the credibility to the contest. Ukraine should refuse from the participation this year, as 112 Ukraine reported citing music producer Volodymyr Bebeshko during his speech at “Puls” TV show.
“They have created such conditions for Maruv, which make her refuse. Freedom Jazz band has also refused in solidarity. There is nothing else to do than to send Kazka to Eurovision. It is a very good band; it is very popular in Europe but they performed badly. A girl was told to learn a year ago and a girl does not want to learn. She came again and showed. It is impossible to come and sing badly; it is necessary to learn at music school. Because all students, who study at the conservatory will come to the teachers and ignore them and they will say: why we need to learn as we can sing without it and come to Eurovision. They undermined the faith in the integrity of Eurovision and nobody believes them and do not want to come there,” he stated.
The producer thinks that Ukraine should refuse from participation in 2019.
“We should immediately refuse from participation in Eurovision this year, suspend all leadership, clear everything and repeat it next year with pure intentions,” Bebeshko emphasized.
Earlier we reported that singer Anna Korsun (Maruv) would not present Ukraine at the song contest “Eurovision 2019.” Maruv said that she was forced to refuse from the participation in the contest from Ukraine due to her tour in Russia.
“I am ready to refuse from performances in Russia. I have answered all the questions the jury had on air. I have not visited Crimea since 2014. I have not violated any law of Ukraine. Besides, I am ready to assume all the costs related to participation in the international contest,” she stated.
Maruv won the Ukrainian national selection for Eurovision and should perform with Siren Song in the first semi-final of the Eurovision, which would take place on May 14. Her performance was planned for the second half of the show.
Besides, STB Channel stated that the rules of the national selection for Eurovision do not contain demands on the absence of the tours in the Russian Federation. It also added that only the National Television Company of Ukraine can decide who would present Ukraine during the Eurovision.
On February 26, Freedom-jazz girls band, which got the second place in the national selection for Eurovision song contest, refused to participate in it.
