The transition period of the implementation of language article of the law ‘On education’ should be extended till 2023. Lliya Hrynevych, the Education and Science Minister of Ukraine claimed this during the meeting with Cristian-Leon Turcanu, the Ambassador of Romania to Ukraine as the press service of the Education Ministry reported.
‘We are thankful to the Venice Commission for the efficient and professional work and we are ready to implement the provided recommendations. It is important to understand now that we do this not due to the reaction of the separate countries but our top-priority aim is to provide every Ukrainian child with proficiency in Ukrainian language, regardless of nationality or point of residence. We need everyone to be ready for the implementation of the article and to take into account the peculiarities of the education of the national communities of different language groups’, she explained.
According to Hrynevych, Ukraine will prepare the step by step map of the implementation of the language article.
Moreover, the ministry works on the improvement of the system of the provision of the quality of the education, particularly higher education.
As we reported earlier, the new law on education was signed by Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko on September 25. In particular, it implements 12-years-long school program and allows teaching languages of national minorities only in specially created classes in Ukrainian schools.
Ukrainian government voluntarily sent the law to the Venice Commission for further evaluation. The later rendered their conclusion on the law on Education on December 11.
