“To research the mutations of strains, it is necessary to dissolve the virus, biomaterial; there is such term as sequencing. We, unfortunately, only on the way of creating proper laboratories, ordered proper equipment…we have the equipment at Institute of Microbiology but it needs significant modernizations and we are dealing with it,” Stepanov said.
According to Stepanov, currently, the European, Italian and Spanish strains circulate in Ukraine. There are no mutated British and South African strains.
Besides, the minister noted that Ukraine does not have the proper types of equipment to hold such researches independently. However, this year, the funds were allocated for the creation and modernization of the laboratories.
“This year, the funds are allocated for the creation of the bio cluster with laboratories. The program is written down on the biological protection of the state. We have to build many things from the very beginning. I stand firm that the full support of the president is a need to get biological protection,” the minister noted.
As we reported, the coronavirus, which spread is spotted in Zakarpattia, became more aggressive and toxic than in autumn 2020.
