Ukraine is fully ready to collect the biometric data at border checkpoints, Deputy Head of Ministry of Internal Affairs Vadym Troyan said in an international conference on the Criminal Procedure Code.
“We have over 200 checkpoints equipped,” he noted.
Troyan also added that Ukraine discussed the possibility of placing Ukrainian border guards on every 20 km of the border with Russia (at the moment there are guards on every 80 km) with the EU and US partners.
“How fast (it can be implemented), we wrote in the strategy of reform for the next two years. We discussed this issue with the US and EU mission. The standards aren’t quite there yet, but we will do this,” he added.
According to the President’s degree which came into force on September 1, the biometric control at Ukrainian borders is to start working on January 1.
