The minister drew attention to the results of the localization of the production of the vaccines by Lekhim Company in Kharkiv. According to Lyashko, the Health Ministry has reached agreements on the location of the production of other vaccines in Ukraine - his representatives have already started talks on the production of the mRNA vaccines.
“Until the end of this year, we will have a clear understanding of how to launch these processes,” the minister added.
In comparison with the traditional vaccines that usually contain only some part of weakened or inactivated virus, the mRNA vaccines contain “guidelines” that teach the cells to produce fragments of particular proteins outside the virus target. During a short period of time (24-48 hours), the cells start to produce these proteins and the body marks them as alien and creates the immune response.
Examples of the mRNA vaccines are BioNTech/Pfizer and Moderna.
As we reported, Kharkiv Lekhim enterprise plans to launch the production of the vaccines in filled syringes, including the vaccines against Covid-19, next year.
At the end of December 2020, Ukraine paid an advance payment of 34.5 million dollars for the future delivery of 1.9 million doses of CoronaVac under an agreement between DP Medical Procurement and Lekhim private company. The total number of purchased doses of the vaccine (ie 1.9 million doses) should be delivered to Ukraine by May 31.
China sent to Ukraine the first batch of CoronaVac vaccine against coronavirus produced by the Chinese company Sinovac Biotech on March 25, 2021.
