Over a year, the fall in mortality was observed in Ukraine due to war conflict

Ukraine has climbed up to 150th position (out of 163 places) in the rating of peaceful states according to the results of the annual research of the Institute of Economy and Peace “Global Peace Index 2019”, as the results of the research of the Institute reported.

It was noted that Ukraine improved its position by two, from 152 to 150 place, having shown the biggest breakaway in the rating. Fall in mortality because of war conflict influenced that by 85%, the decrease in the number of displaced people, weakening of terrorism impact and political terror.

The research was conducted in 163 countries of the world where 99,7% of the population live. The level of peaceful disposition under the following criteria was assessed: the level of social cohesion, respect for human rights, political and economic stability, the level of terroristic threat and participation in the country with battle actions.

Russia remained on the 154th place, Syria and Afghanistan occupied 162 and 163 respectively. It should be noted that the U.S. is on the 128th position, but last year the country occupied the 121st place.

Iceland appeared to be the most peaceful, it leads the rating since 2008. New Zealand, Portugal, Austria and Denmark entered the top 5.

The analyses of the research reports that over the past 5 years the situation with peace has improved, four out of nine regions of the world became more peaceful. Yet, if we compare the past ten years, we have noted deterioration of the situation due to the conflicts in the Middle East and the increase of terrorism.
