Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs fears Russian Federation's withdrawal from the negotiation process to resolve the situation in Donbas. This was stated by the First Deputy Foreign Minister Vadym Prystayko in an interview with Ukrainian News.
In particular, Prystayko noted that Russian side is now demonstratively refusing to participate in the negotiations in the Normandy format (Ukraine, Germany, France, Russia).
“They ignore the meetings. Because they want to demonstrate that they are no longer interested in this format. The danger of the whole process is that Russians, relatively speaking, are gradually leaving the negotiating table,” he said.
At the same time, Prystayko admitted that other participants in the negotiation process are aware of the danger of such behavior of Russian side and take measures to prevent Moscow from leaving the negotiating table.
“The leaders, when they feel that the formats are slipping, hold telephone conversations, we hope that the leaders of Ukraine, Germany and France will pick up the phone and say: “Volodya, stop it. We sat down two years ago in Minsk and agreed ... and your signature is there. So come on, send your minister or your political adviser (in this case - Surkov), let them sit down and make the deal. "That's how it's supposed to be solved," he added.
Earlier it was reported that Ukraine looks forward to activate Normandy format. It will give impetus to the work of the Minsk Groups, said Iryna Herashchenko.
