New Covid-19 cases are expected to rise in January 2022 unless a lockdown is introduced, which this year helped delay the coronavirus wave until mid-February, head of the Center for Health Economics of the Kyiv School of Economics Yuri Hanychenko announced during a briefing.

"We expect the onset of Covid-19 to increase in the next wave in early 2022," Hanychenko said.

Also in 2022, the situation with the coronavirus in Ukraine will depend on the outbreak of Covid-19 in Europe.

"But here the factor of increase in morbidity in Europe will influence the level of change of our quarantine restrictions during the New Year holidays and in January," Hanychenko said.

As it was reported earlier, Yuri Hanychenko stated that it is too early to say that the peak incidence of the autumn Covid-19 wave has passed in Ukraine.

Also, according to him, as of November 23, we can already talk about the current peak of mortality in Ukraine - it is about 650 people on average during the day.
