Ukraine makes no progress in visa-free regime with Canada, - Ambassador

Ukraine has not made any progress in the introduction of a visa-free regime with Canada; Andriy Shevchenko, the Ambassador of Ukraine, said this during the hearings in the Parliament’s Standing Committee, Ukrinform reported.

'Unfortunately, I don’t see any progress in the visa-free regime area. Moreover, in 2018 we have recorded an increase in the number of visa denials for Ukrainians. This indicator reached 26 percent,” Shevchenko said.

He stressed that there are no reasons, which would explain such high indicators.

“The goal of our states is clear: we have to give people free opportunities to travel,” the diplomat noted.

Earlier, Canada’s government reported that it did not consider the possibility to introduce a visa-free regime for Ukrainians, as Ukraine does not comply with the requirements of Canada. Then, Shevchenko noted that the visa-free regime between thee two states will not be introduced in the near future.

Ukraine canceled the visas for Canadian citizens in 2005.
